August 1 kicks off Volume 3 of Untold, a series exploring tales from the world of sports. From boxing to football and doping scandals, these new stories reveal aspects beyond the headlines. According to a synopsis, each character-driven narrative features candid first-person accounts, unveiling the “grit, resilience, heartbreak, triumph, and humor beneath the sweat.” Among the stories told in the four episodes this season: Jake Paul aims to move beyond YouTube fame and make an impact in the fight world; Johnny Manziel, also known as “Johnny Football,” experiences both success and pressure; and Victor Conte’s Balco supplements company becomes involved in a steroid controversy with top athletes.
On August 31, One Piece comes to Netflix. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga series in Japan, the adapted series follows the high-seas adventure of Monkey D. Luffy. Longing for a life of freedom, Luffy embarks on a perilous journey from his small village to seek the titular legendary treasure, and become the King of the Pirates. To achieve this, he must form the crew he desires, secure a ship to sail, explore the vast blue seas, evade the Marines, and outsmart dangerous rivals at every step.
